Aqueducts - Can we really adopt them?
Our planet is at a crucial stage in its history. This is the first time that we know of that human beings have had the ability to help heat up the planet. The planet is going through a phase where it is beginning to heat up and many people on the planet want to slow down the heating up process so that it does not get to the point where humans could potentially be killed off. Green technologies have been suggested to help slow down or potentially stop the heating process of the Earth. One of the green technologies that has proved to be a possibility for saving our planet is aqueducts. Aqueducts were developed by the Romans and they could possibly be the solution that the planet is in need of. To learn more in detail on the history of the aqueduct system and how it has survived to the modern day time period click here.
Why do these aqueducts give hope?
When looking at the aqueducts above it is evident that modern aqueducts are a little more complex than their ancestors, but overall they hold the same design. They both use gravity or natural pressure to move water long distances. The aqueduct system gives people hope for the future because they require no energy to bring water from such a long distance away. It would cost millions, upon billions of dollars to constantly push water for such long distances. The no electricity rule in aqueducts makes is possible to save all of this money, Also, since modern aqueducts have been designed and have been tested, as they actually work or cities like Los Angeles, there are very few risks in terms of functionality when planning to construct an aqueduct system. The main problem though with implementing this technology into modern day systems is that many cities do not know of it or they do not view as a valuable technology to invest in. This is sad to think about, but is also a little true. Aqueducts are an old technology and many changes have not been made to them in all of these centuries. To see how modern aqueducts are be used click here and watch the video on the Los Angeles aqueduct.
Building the Los Angeles Aqueduct
BeforeThe slideshow above is depicting the construction process that the Los Angeles aqueduct had to go through to be built. There are also photos of the opening day in 1913.

NowThe slideshow above is depicting the Los Angeles aqueduct in modern times. The aqueduct has changed a little bit over the years, but it is interesting to note how this aqueduct spans much more land than the aqueducts that the Romans built.

Can aqueducts be integrated?
Aqueducts are used in the modern world, but they are used only when water has to be transported over large expanses of land without power. This means that the possibility that this technology would be developed is not that likely. If more research were put into how to make aqueducts more efficient for short distances then I think this technology would be implemented more in our modern society. Until that moment though i do not think that this technology will become the next world revolution.
